Marisa Castuera Hayase

Board Member

Ulupono Vision: Strive to improve the quality of life for the people of Hawai‘i by working toward sustainable solutions that support and promote locally produced food, renewable energy, clean transportation, and better management of freshwater resources.

Marisa Hayase leads the grantmaking initiatives of The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, supporting community-led collaborations that fight poverty and build thriving communities. In Hawaiʻi, the Foundation’s work centers on the vision and leadership of those with an intergenerational commitment to the ʻāina (land) they call home. These leaders are at the heart of inspiring community networks that are building healthy local food systems, creating permanently affordable housing, expanding access to healthcare, and developing education pathways that lead to meaningful work and a stronger future for all.

Prior to joining the Weinberg Foundation in 2019, Marisa was a public-sector consultant, and advanced statewide initiatives to strengthen public education, community well-being, and the health of the natural environment. Her company, Storyline Consulting, also helped a diverse range of public-serving organizations advance their work through community input, data analysis, and storytelling.

Marisa’s past and current volunteer leadership positions include serving on the boards of Mālama Honua Public Charter School, the Susannah Wesley Community Center, the Stupski Foundation, and the Institute for Climate and Peace. Marisa’s family roots in Hawaiʻi, Mexico, and Okinawa are core to her commitment to build inclusive collaborations that value people’s unique cultures, strengths, and contributions.
